Working for Consumer Psychology Lab, I know I am in an environment with a totally unique focus. With it being our purpose to help people reflect and feel heard, it makes for a soothing work day, actually. From the beginning, there has been total support in helping me grow into the skills needed, from the skills I had. I appreciate the openness and support of the team and leaders the most. It makes the world of difference to how I feel about work. The tone of each day also stands out from any other place. I really enjoy that the day is spent having happy conversations – because predominantly, they are – while also still experiencing challenging concepts enough to grow. Each call is different and there is always more to learn about the way people interact. The nature of the interviews has impacted the way I communicate, even with my family. I feel better about being able to prompt people to express themselves and also be comfortable with silences that create space to share. We make a lot of assumptions along our way, as well, and this really has taught me to be mindful of that; because everyone’s take away is different because their values are different. Something definitely worth noting is how much we miss in conversations. Re-listening to interviews makes me wonder how much people say in a day that goes unheard. It is so valuable to pay attention, and often it makes such a difference to a person’s day. I am grateful to be a part of this team.
